The role of a Member of Parliament in Ottawa can be very demanding. There are often many groups that are looking to meet with me on important issues affecting Labrador and other parts of Canada.
I am also in the House of Commons speaking frequently on Bills, Motions, questioning the Government on important issues, giving statements in the House, and of course voting. Much of the days schedule is rigid and set by parliament.
In addition to this, I sit on the Public Accounts committee as Vice-Chair, where we get to review important reports release by the Auditor General, and question officials as to what steps will be taken to improve their department’s accountability and performance.
In the extra time I have, I have many weekly TV and radio commitments that are very important for discussing the issues of the day with Labradorians and indeed all Canadians.
While in Ottawa, I always think of being back in Labrador and never forget the mandate that my constituents have given me. It gives me great joy to spend my remaining time in Ottawa phoning, emailing, and writing back to constituents on issues that matter.
